Methodology
Methodology:
Soybeans were planted at 2 populations, 130,000 seeds/acre and 160,000 seeds/acre on May 19th, 2017. The 130,000 seeds/acre was a reduced seeding rate and was compared to the farmers typical soybean planting population of 160,000 seeds/acre.
Results
Results: The reduced seeding rate of 130,000 seeds/acre did not yield significantly better or worse than the farmers standard population of 160,000 seeds/acre in medium yielding soybeans (35-55 bu/acre). The results show the farmer may benefit by using a lower seeding rate in the future. The results demonstrate the potential to achieve the same yields (statistically similar) to the 160K yields, with the 130K reduced planting population.
