Methods and Agronomic Information (Urea Pre-plant Broadcast)
Pioneer 90Y01 was planted in 15 in. rows on May 13. Seed was treated with a fungicide, insecticide, and inoculant. ESN® controlled-release polymer coated urea was applied to the three treatment strips (Figure 1) at 75 lbs N ac-1 on June 5, 2015 at V3. The field received approx. 9.0 in. of rain from June 1 through August 31.

The field received approx. 9.0 in. of rain from June 1 through August 31.
Results
Results
Yield differences within each treatment strip (Figure 1) were calculated by subtracting ESN-June applied yield from Urea applied yield. Result showed no positive yield response in overall.
However, in areas where yields were often >60 bu ac-1, urea application before planting may have been beneficial. Even though it’s a more-costly product, an ESN® application on June 5, 2015 at V1 in the same field showed more potential for yield gain than urea application before planting.
