Methodology

Treatment Information
Three strips of UAN (32-0-0) were applied at 10 gal ac-1
during planting. This fertilizer was dribbled on the
surface and placed 2” to the side of the furrow.
Agronomic Information and Weather
Soybeans with a 2.0 maturity rating were no-tilled in 30” rows on May 17. Seed was treated with insecticide, fungicide, and a B.japonicum inoculant. The previous crop was corn. The field received approx. 10.52 in. of rain and accumulated 1802 GDDs from June 1 through August 31. This was warmer and somewhat wetter than the average of 1697 GDDs and 9.94 in.

Results

Results
On average, the soybeans receiving UAN yielded no differently than those without. Soybean yield response to N has been observed in several SD on-farm trials over the past three years. However, responses across an entire field have been rare. More N trials in soybeans are needed in the future to better-understand this system. Applications during planting are especially of interest because they can eliminate an application later in the growing season.
