Methodology
Seed in the treatment strips was treated with Acceleron® insecticide and fungicide seed treatment and TagTeam® LCO, which contains the LCO molecule to improve nodule formation, a phosphate-solubilizing Penicillium bilaii (Pb), and a specialized Bradyrhizobium inoculant to promote N fixation. The variety, AG1935 planted in 30 in. rows on May 9 and received approx. 16.3 in. of rain and 1698 GDD’s from June 1 through August 31.
Results
Yield differences within each treatment strip (Figure 1) were calculated by subtracting untreated yield from treated yield, where untreated yield was estimated from data surrounding both sides of the treatment strip. The three treatment strips averaged a positive yield difference of 3.4 bu ac-1. Similar results were achieved within the same study on this site in 2015 with Optimize®, a similar seed treatment, but without the Pb. This suggests that either the fungicide, insecticide, rhizobia inoculant, LCO molecule, or a combination of any of these factors that promoted the yield gain, and not the Pb. The Pb did however show a potential positive interaction with Vitazyme, a biostimulant injected into the furrow during planting. Future trials may be of interest to explore this possible interaction.
