Methodology

This experimental field was in Buffalo County, South Dakota. Soybeans 24×728 variety was planted in 30-inch rows in strips on April 27, 2021.

SoyfxTM was applied to the treated strips at 1 pt/acre on 6/18/2021.  This was a microbial product that contained the following:

Bacillus magaterium        1.0 x 105 CFU/mL

Bacillus pumilus               1.0 x 102 CFU/mL

Soluble potash (K2O)      1%

The treatment effect was analyzed separately by yield zone, which was either low (<35 bu/ac), medium (35 to 55 bu/ac) or high (>55 bu/ac).

Results

Overall, Vitazyme application at low yield zone reduced yield. Yield was increased by 6.4 bu/ac however was not statistically significant (Figure 1 & Table 1). Replication 1 and 2 saw increase in yield by 11.38 and 12.22 bu/ac respectively whereas replication 3 and 4 observed slightly decrease in yield by 0.2 and 1.25 bu/ac respectively. Similar results have been found in other locations. However still more research at multiple sites with more replications are required to better explain the contrast between two different treatments in different environmental condition.
