Methodology
Three strips of Quilt Xcel® were applied at 21 oz/acre on Aug. 1, 2014 to soybeans planted in 15 in. wide rows when the crop was at the R3 growth stage. This fungicide was a dual mode of action product, with both a strobilurin and propiconazole component.
Results
Much of the first strip had positive yield responses, but the other two strips on the same soil type at a similar landscape position showed little response. So, it’s difficult to distinguish whether the yield response in rep 1 was due to the fungicide or the natural yield variability that occurs in a field. Quilt Xcel® can cost nearly $30 per acre in product alone, so a 4 bu yield response per acre is needed to consider treatment.
