Methodology
Seed in the treatment strips was treated with Acceleron® insecticide and fungicide seed treatment and Optimize®, which contained a specialized Bradyrhizobium japonicum inoculant to promote N fixation and the LCO molecule to improve nodule formulation. The variety, AG1935 was planted in 30 in. rows on May 9 and received approx. 16.3 in. of rain and 1698 GDD’s from June 1 through August 31.
Results
Yield differences within each treatment strip (Figure 1) were calculated by subtracting untreated yield from treated yield, where untreated yield was estimated from data surrounding both sides of the treatment strip. The nine treatment strips averaged a positive yield difference of 3.3 bu ac-1. However, we can’t state whether the fungicide, insecticide, rhizobia inoculant, LCO molecule, or combination of any of these factors may have caused the yield advantage. Future on-farm trials may be of interest to gain a better understanding of how these products perform across a South Dakota Landscape.
