Methodology

Hand county, South Dakota was location to this experimental field. On April 20, 2021, soybeans were planted in 30-inch rows in strips. This experiment compares the effects of molasses treatment vs no molasses treatment which was applied on July 24. Each treatment was replicated two times in this trial. The field was divided into low yield zones (less than 35 bu/ac), mid yield zones (35-55 bu/ac), and high yield zones (more than 55 bu/ac) for analysis purposes.

Results

On average, molasses application did not increase yield. It resulted in an average yield reduction by 1.72 bu/ac in Mid yield zone of the field. However, this reduction was not statistically significant (Table 1). More research at multiple sites with more replications are required to better explain the contrast between two different treatments.
