Methodology

Previous on-farm soybean trials had shown potential yield gains when potassium was applied at the summit position.  Therefore, a K20 small plot trial was performed in 2016 at three different landscape positions to further-investigate.  This report focuses on the Footslope landscape position, where four reps were each fertilized with 0, 60, 120, and 250 lbs K2O ac-1.  Potash (0-0-60) was broadcast on June 5 at V2.  Fertilizer was then incorporated into soil between the soybean rows with a roto-tiller to a depth of approximately 6 inches.Soybeans with a 1.4 maturity rating were planted in 30” rows on May 19 at 145,000 seeds ac-1. Soybeans were treated with Rancona and inoculated with Bio-Boost.  DAP and Potash fertilizer was applied in the spring of 2016 at rates of 100 and 50 lbs/ac respectively.  The field was tilled after corn harvest in 2015 and field cultivated in the spring.

Results

The unfertilized check fertilizer rate had highest yields on the footslope (Table 2). However, yields difference due to different fertilizer treatment was not noted. Soil Available potassium level and yield did not seems to be related as highest yield strips had lowest soil available potassium level.
