Methodology
This trial was conducted at footslope of the field. Soybeans were planted on May 15, 2020 at 160,000 seeds/acre in 30-inch rows. Nitrogen fertilizer were applied at the rate of 30 lb/ac at R3 growth stage. Fertilizer source for nitrogen was polymer coated urea. Both fertilizer treated and untreated treatment had four replications. Plot size for this experiment was 10 feet wide and 30 feet long. For the data analysis each fertilizer treated replication were compared with untreated replications.
Results
Overall, yield difference between nitrogen fertilizer and no fertilizer was statistically insignificant. There was a 0.4 bu/ac increase in yield, but it was not statically significant (Table 1). Reps, 2 and 3, saw an increase in yield, while Rep 1 and 4 saw a decrease. Dry conditions for several weeks after application may have adversely impacted the treatments, as water is needed to incorporate these fertilizers into the soil for root uptake. To determine Nitrogen effectiveness over several years, further studies and further replications should be performed.
