Methodology
This trial was conducted at footslope of the field. Soybeans were planted on May 15, 2020 at 160,000 seeds/acre in 22-inch rows. Nitrogen fertilizer were applied at the rate of 41 lb/ac at R3 growth stage. Fertilizer source for nitrogen was polymer coated urea. Both fertilizer treated and untreated treatment had four replications. Plot size for this experiment was 10 feet wide and 30 feet long. For the data analysis each fertilizer treated replication were compared with untreated replications.
Results
Overall, nitrogen fertilizer did not raise yields at the field’s footslope. There was a 0.4 bu/ac increase in yield, but it was not statically significant (Table 1). All the Reps, 1 and 4, saw a decrease in yield, while Rep 2 and 3 saw a rise. To determine Nitrogen effectiveness over several years, further studies and further replications should be performed at multiple locations.
