Methodology

Two strips of ESN were applied at 75 lbs. N/acre to soybeans planted in 30 in. wide rows in early-July of 2014 just prior to flowering.  The site received approx. 11.2 in. of rain and accumulated 1634 GDD’s from June 1 through August 31.  This was approximately 2 in. more precip. and 58 less GDD’s than the 30 yr. avg.

Results

Even though ESN didn’t appear to increase yields overall (Table 1), there appeared to be yield increases within reps 1 and 2 on the north end of the field.  This rate costs approximately $45/acre in product alone.  These results show that economical yield response may be predictable, which could warrant a precision application.  Future studies are needed to confirm this concept and develop management zones for possible precision applications.
