Methodology

ESN was aerial applied at 75 lbs N/acre on July 1 to a field no-tilled in 15” rows. The crop was at the V5-V6 growth stage. The site received approx. 19.6 in. of rain and accumulated 1764 GDD’s from June 1 through August 31. This was approximately 11.3 in. more precip. and 118 less GDD’s than the 30 yr. avg.
The yield response to ESN averaged over the four strips measured two ways were 4.5 bu ac-1 (yield monitor), and 5.1 bu ac-1 (weigh wagon).

Results

Results from this study are provided in Table 1. ESN costs approximately $525 per ton. Applying this rate could cost close to $45/acre in product alone. These
results show that economical yield response may be predictable, which could warrant a precision application. Future studies are needed to confirm this concept and develop management zones for possible precision applications.
