Croplan 1750RC was planted in 15” rows on 4/30 into a tilled field previously in corn. Seed was treated with Warden® CX fungicide/insecticide and Optimize®, which contained the LCO molecule to improve nodule formation and a specialized Bradyrhizobium inoculant to promote N fixation. ESN® controlled-release polymer coated urea was applied with the seed at planting to the three treatment strips (Figure 1) at 60 lbs N ac-1. The field received approx. 9.0 in. of rain from June 1 through August 31. The treatment strips were only 40’ wide and the field was angle-harvested. Therefore, we only felt comfortable analyzing the yield data points that fell within middle 10 ft. of each strip, which explains the fragmented appearance of the strips.

On average, the treated strips yielded no differently than the estimated yield of those same strips without ESN® (Table 2). This estimate was calculated from data surrounding both sides of each strip. Since the majority of rectangles appears to show a yield gain, future studies with this method of ESN® application may be of interest.
