Methodology

Treatment Information
Three strips of ESN® controlled-release polymer coated
urea (44-0-0) were applied at 60 lbs N ac-1 in-furrow during
planting. If successful, this application method could
eliminate a pass across the field.

Agronomic and Weather Info.
Soybeans with a 1.4 maturity rating were no-tilled into corn residue in 7.5” rows on May 16. The seed was treated with a fungicide, insecticide, and B. japonicum inoculant. The field received approx. 5.6 in. of rain and accumulated 1844 GDDs from June 1 through August 31. This was dryer and warmer than the average of 9.24 in. and 1697 GDDs.

Results

Results
On average, this ESN® application method did not increase yields. Evidence of possible yield loss was shown in rep 2. These results were consistent with a similar 2016 trial in Day Co. Over the past three years, ESN® has appeared to increase yields in areas of many SD soybean fields. However, these responses were associated with surface broadcast applications made in June through mid-July.
