Methodology

Treatment Information
Three strips of ESN® controlled-release polymer
coated urea (44-0-0) were applied at 75 lbs N ac-1
on July 18 at R2 with and airplane.

Agronomic Information and Weather
Soybeans with a 0.9 maturity rating were planted in 30” rows on
May 10. The seed was only treated with a B. japonicum inoculant.
The previous crop was corn. Tillage consisted of fall-ripping followed
by spring field cultivation. The field received approx. 6.2 in. of rain
and accumulated 1726 GDDs from June 1 through August 31. This
was dryer than the average of 9.24 in. and similar to the average of
1697 GDDs.

Results

Results
On average, ESN® did not increase yields. However, it appears that yield
response may have occurred on top of the ridge through the middle of
the field, especially in rep 1. Soybean yield response to N has been
observed in several SD on-farm trials over the past three years.
However, responses across an entire field have been rare. Therefore,
additional N trials in soybeans are needed in the future to betterunderstand
this system.
