Methodology
Soybeans were planted in 30-inch rows at 141,000 seeds/ac in Brookings Co. on May 10, 2023. Before planting the seed was treated with BioCore at 1.98 grams per pound of seed. The contents of this product are listed in the document below the yield maps. The soybeans were planted in five treatment strips that were 120 ft. wide. Soybeans were harvested on September 19, 2023, and yield analysis was conducted on the middle two passes from each treatment strip.
Results
Even though soybeans receiving the BioCore seed treatment yielded 2.5 bu/ac lower than those not receiving the product, this was less than 3.8 bu/ac, and therefore not considered significantly different at a 90% confidence interval (Table 1). The 2.5 bu/ac yield reduction would have been significantly lower at a 76% confidence interval. Since BioCore is biological product designed to raise available P levels, further testing, especially in soils with lower P levels, would be of interest in the future.
