Methodology

Ascend® plant growth regulator by Winfield Solutions, LLC was applied at 6.4 oz/acre on Aug. 1 at R3 growth stage to field planted in 15 in. rows. The site received approx. 11.4 in. of rain and accumulated 1585 GDD’s from June 1 through August 31. This was approximately 0.43 in. more precip. and 83 less GDD’s than the 30 yr. avg.

Results

Overall, Ascend® did not increase yields (Table 1). However, soybeans grown on the Poinsett- Waubay silty clay loam appeared to benefit. Applying the 6.4 oz rate can cost close to $12.00/acre in product. These results show that economical yield response to Ascend® may be predictable, which could warrant a precision application. Future studies are needed to confirm this concept and develop management zones for possible precision applications. This product should also be tested earlier in flowering.
