Methodology
This experiment was conducted at Lake county. Soybean variety 19BA23 was planted in 30 in. rows in strips on April 23, 2020. This experiment consists of two different seeding rates- normal (100K to 150K) and lower (80K to 100K) comparison and both seeding rate had only one replication. Drone Imagery was collected using a fixed-wing AgEagle drone on July 28 and August 25 of 2020.
Results
On average, a lower seeding rate resulted in a yield reduction of -0.74 bu/ac. However, since the trial only had one replication, no additional statistical significance was computed (Table 1). The GNDVI scale, which ranges from -1 to 1, was calculated using drone imagery. GNDVI values closer to 1 indicate improved plant health and yield, while lower values indicate the opposite. In both flights, the average GNDVI in the higher seeding rate strip was highest (Table 2). More research at multiple sites and replication are required to better explain the contrast between two different seeding rates.
